Program Description: Transfusion Associated Circulatory Overload (TACO) is a common cause of transfusion-related morbidity and mortality. AABB Standard 5.19.7 (31st Edition) states, “the blood bank/transfusion service shall have a policy for responding to requests for products for patients identified by the ordering physician or other authorized health professional as being at increased risk for TACO”. In this program, participants will learn risk factors for the development of TACO and learn how hospital transfusion services mitigate risk for this complication.
