Program Description: Blood product inventory relies on a donor population to donate on a frequent basis and red cell usage to remain steady. In reality, there are many times when blood product inventory is short. This program will address how to handle inventory management in hospitals during shortages and in blood centers trying to address the shortage and still provide products to hospitals. The program will focus especially on shortages dealing with O negative red cells and AB plasma. It will also address ways hospitals can reduce the use of these products by using O positive red cells and A plasma and it address how blood centers can work with hospitals on their inventory management and how to move products around during shortages while trying to recruit donors.
