Back to Guidelines for Pneumatic Tube Delivery Systems: Validation and Use to Transport Blood Components
The point-to-point transfer of blood components is fast, efficient and, when the process is properly validated, quite safe.
Many hospitals use pneumatic tube delivery systems as a means of delivering blood products faster and more efficiently than surface travel options. To ensure product safety and the maintenance of quality, system validation is key. The goal of this Guideline is to provide direction when considering pneumatic tube technology for blood component distribution. This document will help direct procedures for facilities planning on the introduction of this technology and help improve validation efforts for facilities already using the technology.
